Q. Can I arrange for my own pet transportation needs?
A. Yes, you can. Domestic pet travel is less complicated than international pet travel. Using a professional pet relocation company is not necessarily the least expensive way to ship your pets but it is the most valuable way to do so. A pet relocation specialist such as Animal Transporters will assist you with all logistics and make your pet transportation stress-free. International travel arrangements are oftentimes difficult and a simple careless mistake can result in the hold your pet in quarantine longer than necessary. So, when possible, it is highly suggested to use a professional pet transportation service such as Animal Transporters.
Q. Is using a pet relocation service cheaper?
A. No. However, we assure you that the value you receive in knowing your pet is being well taken care of during their travels will far outweigh the cost.
Q. What do I need to know to arrange for my pet transportation with Animal Transporters?
A. General questions you'll need to answer before making your pet travel arrangements are:
  • Is your pet traveling domestically (within your own country), or internationally?
  • When will your pet need to depart? When will your pet need to arrive?
  • What is the size and weight of your pet?
  • How many pets will be traveling?
  • Will your pet be accompanied?
  • What is your pet's final destination?
  • Do you have a proper kennel for your pet travel?
  • What size kennel/travel container will you need for my pet?
  • How soon will your pet's move need to be made?

Q. Is it really safe to transport my pet by airplane?
A. Yes. With proper diligence and common sense, the transportation of your pet by air is oftentimes safer than a long road trip.

Q. Where will my pet be located when in the airplane?
A. All pets flown as excess baggage or as cargo fly in the cargo hold of the plane. This pressurized area is heated and cooled, ensuring the comfort of your pet. Rest assured your pet breaths the same air as the passengers seated in the cabin on the plane.
Q. Are sedatives used in pet transportation?
A. Absolutely not. Sedatives suppress the respiratory system of the pets, which may cause disorientation. In fact, several airlines will not accept your pet if they are sedated nor will Animal Transporters.
Q. How should I prepare my pet for travel?
A. The first order of business is to make certain your pet is comfortable with their kennel to be used for the transportation. Your pet may already be kennel-trained, from when they were housebroken. If not, you will need to get them comfortable in their kennel. We suggest putting treats in the kennel to entice them to enter. Then, gradually progress to leaving your pet in the crate for short periods of time. This helps eliminate the chance of separation anxiety and ensures a comfortable move for your pet.
Q. How much will it cost for my pet transportation service?
A. The easiest way to acquire a price quote is to fill out our online Pet Transfer/Request Quote Form. Airline shipping charges are based on the dimensions of the kennel required for your pet, along with their weight and destination. The more thorough information you provide initially, the more accurate your quote will be. There is no obligation or fee to do so. After we receive your form, Animal Transporters will review your information and contact you to discuss your pet travel needs.
Q. Can I use my own kennel for pet travel through Animal Transporters?
A. Yes provided it is a travel approved kennel that your pet will be able to stand up and turn around in. Based on the size of your pet, we can recommend the needed size kennel - which can then be purchased at a local pet store or we can supply one for you. Please note: Your kennel may not be the collapsible type.
Q. What size pet kennel will I need?
A. The Animal Welfare Act states that the crate must be large enough for a pet to stand up turn around completely and lie down in a normal position. Animal Transporters will assist you with selecting the proper kennel size for your pet's travel. We will also recommend training tips help your pet adjust to the kennel, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.

Q. Is my pet relocation fee tax-deductible?
A. Yes, in IRS Publication # 521 ("Moving Expenses") it states that pet moving is a tax-deductible relocation expense when your relocation and moving is for purposes of change of employment. Animal Transporters suggest you consult your tax advisor for further information.
Q. Can I put my two pets in the same kennel to travel together?
A. No, for safety purposes - each pet must travel in his or her own separate kennel.
Q. What kind of animals will Animal Transporters arrange for pet transportation?
A. Although the majority of pets that we transport are dogs, cats, birds and small pets such as ferrets, turtles and Guinea pigs - we can handle most any type of domestic pet move anywhere on the planet. Contact us for more information on our pet transportation service.

Q. Do you provide pet moving by ground or air?
A. Both. We provide ground transportation anywhere within California, Arizona and Nevada. Air pet transportation can be arranged for anywhere on our planet.

Q. Can I arrange to fly on the same airline flight as my pet?
A. Most definitely; however, you will need to arrange for your personal airline tickets directly with the airline. Animal Transporters cannot guarantee seat availability aboard aircraft.
Q. What should I ship with my pet for air travel?
A. A small zip lock bag with food may be taped to the outside top of the crate. All other supplies will need to be shipped separately from your pet.
Q. What should I ship with my pet for ground travel?
A. Each animal in every species is unique. In addition to our high-level care and attention to the animals, some may require special attention that is specialized for that particular animal or circumstance. Such things as customized containers, food and special bedding may be necessary for a safe and secure journey. Your pets deserve our best efforts to insure that their travel plans are coordinated to best suit their needs. What should you pack with your traveling pets?
  • Health Certificate
  • Proof of Bordetella Treatment
  • Enough pet food for the trip, bagged & labeled with your pet's name
Animal Transporters will supply the leash for exercising your pet, but we ask that your pet wear a properly fitted collar or harness. We recommend that if your pet has a favorite toy, pack that along for the trip as well. It will provide comfort for their journey.
Q. How far in advance should I contact Animal Transporters for my pet transportation needs?
A. A general rule of thumb for domestic travel would be not later than seven days prior to your date of travel; however, the more time allowed, the better. For international pet moving, it is recommended to allow at least 3-6 months to arrange for blood work, inoculations and medical records. Be sure to contact us as soon as you realize the need for our services.
